It has been suggested that art is a means by which we impose order upon chaos. For the chaos we are currently experiencing, many have turned to art and writing as a way to inform, to reflect, to vent, to give thanks.
The Art and Writing section of the MPS Newsletter is a space we created for the BMC community to share your thoughts, your reflections, your fears, your experiences, through whatever artistic endeavor is most meaningful to you. We are accepting submissions from our community and will be sharing them in every edition of the MPS Newsletter.
The name and photo associated with your Google account will be recorded when you upload files and submit this form.
"I was a friendly person, but never considered myself particularly sociable or talkative – until I started seeing patients on my own during Medicine. Though I introduced myself as a student, to these patients, I was their doctor. Sure, I didn’t place orders, I knew only the gist of how to manage their condition, and I didn’t even get the final say in what was or wasn’t done for their care. What I did do, however, was spend time with them, and in my mind, this was the most important thing both for the care of the patient and for my own peace of mind. I realized – I can be there for them."
"I began every day of my two weeks with him the same way, waking him up at 7 am, poking him where I knew it hurt and asking “does this hurt?”. By day 4 he began asking about my life and I about his. We would share small glimpses of our stories with each other in between the regular abdominal exams. He would
tell me about his daughters and what compelled him to move to Boston from Columbia 30 years ago."
"To miss is to feel a bond to something that used to be within arm’s length but is now just a figment of your imagination, a point of desire. Remnants of what once was. To miss is experiencing the emotion of having something and it being taken away from you. To miss is to hope that that entity will return once more to you."
